The Red House

Arts and Crafts Movement > William Morris > Red House

The Red House was designed by William Morris's friend, Philip Webb (sometimes called Father of Arts and Crafts Architecture).

The Red House is a truly fascinating house to visit as is has not been destroyed by modern developments, through careful management by previous owners who were mainly Morris fans. In 2003 the Red House was bought by the National Trust and is open to the public and is well worth a visit - please see opening times which can be restricted due to smaller size of property.

Sadly Morris only lived at the Red House for about 5 years as his business was expanding and he was unable to travel the long distant between the house and London each day. He never returned to the house.

The Red House is based in Bexleyheath, London, England and is accessible by train. There is a walk from the station to the house, although a taxi could be used too. See National Trust website below for opening times.
